Taking a Stand against Violence: Palesa Malatji saddest story

Understanding the Situation
The Soshanguve pupils’ march on the 29th of May 2023 was a powerful demonstration of unity and strength, as students voiced their concerns and demanded justice for Palesa Malatji, the victims of rape and murder.
Palesa Malatji (17) was a matriculant who got murdered last week after attending extra classes. Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane visited the family of slain pupil whose lifeless body was found in the bush in the early hours of Friday, after she failed to return from extra lesson the day before (on Thursday).
It’s reported that Palesa was a learner at Ntsako Secondary School, left the school after attending extra lessons on Thursday (25 May 2023). She was found raped and murdered after a search was triggered by a passerby who was startled by sounds in the bush; as her uncle Thabiso Malatji explains.
Her body was found sexually violated on Friday, 26 May 2023 next to Echibini Secondary School in Soshanguve.
Soshanguve resident Banele Moyo says the area where Palesa was found murdered & raped is dark, bushy & a prime spot for criminal activity. “Palesa’s life was taken so easily & it could’ve been avoided in so many ways”.
The incident served as a wake-up call for all South Africans, highlighting the urgent need to address the safety concerns faced by our children. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that schools are safe spaces, nurturing environments where learning can flourish.
