GDE admissions feeder zones

School admissions has become clearer and fairer for parents and students alike. The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has unveiled new regulations for GDE admissions feeder zones, aiming to level the playing field and ensure equal access to quality education across the province.

What is GDE admissions feeder zones

A feeder zone meansย an area from which a school accepts its core intake. According to GDE, a 30 Kilometer radius around the school is regarded as a feeder zone.

Let’s dive into the details of these new GDE admissions feeder zones and what they mean for Gauteng’s learners and their families.

Advantages of GDE admissions feeder zones

During the admissions application process a school must give your learner a priority if the following factors are met:

  • If the learner place of residence is closest to the school within the feeder zone (30km radius); indeed this will depend on space availability
  • If the learner has a sibling in the school
  • If the place of employment of at least one parent of the applicant is within the feeder zone

Feeder zone determination play a significant role in ensuring that access to our schools is fair, transparent and conducted in an equitable manner.
