Empowering Educators: Fighting Burnout Through Wellness Initiatives
The unsung heroes of our classrooms, our teachers, are facing increasing pressures. SchoolClick is always keen to highlight initiatives aimed at supporting their wellbeing. This week, we’re turning our attention to South Africa, where the Department of Basic Education (DBE) is actively tackling the issue of teacher burnout.
The DBE recently participated in a panel discussion centred around “Nurturing the Nurturers: Empowering Educators through Wellness.” Sibongile Monareng, the DBE’s Director of Psychosocial Support, shared valuable insights into how policy and practice can be used to mitigate burnout amongst educators.
Teacher burnout is a global problem, and it’s encouraging to see the DBE taking proactive steps to address it. Monareng highlighted the importance of creating supportive work environments, providing access to mental health resources, and promoting self-care strategies for teachers. The discussion explored specific policy changes and practical interventions that can make a real difference in teachers’ lives.
For more information on the DBE’s activities, you can check out their tweet about the event here.
It’s vital that we recognise the dedication and hard work of our teachers and provide them with the support they need to thrive. At SchoolClick, we believe that a well-supported teaching workforce leads to better outcomes for students. Be sure to check out our other school news on our website: SchoolClick News. Let’s continue the conversation about teacher wellbeing and work together to create healthier and more sustainable working environments for our educators.
