Applying for a Child Support Grant Online in South Africa? You can apply for a Child Support Grant online through the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) website. Here’s an overview of the process:
Eligibility:
- You must be the primary caregiver of the child(ren) you are applying for.
- You and the child must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees.
- You cannot apply for more than six non-biological children.
- The child cannot be cared for in a state institution.
Documents required:
- Copy of your ID document
- Child’s birth certificate or ID document (if available)
- Proof of address (utility bill, rental agreement, bank proof of account, etc.)
- School attendance certificate (if the child is above 7 years old)
- Proof of clinic attendance (Road to Health Booklet) for children under 6 years old

Visit the SASSA website
Register for a new account
Click on “Register a New Account” and complete the registration form.
Log in to your account
Enter your username and password.
Select “Apply for a Grant”
This will take you to a list of available grants.
Select “Child Support Grant“
Click on “Apply Now”
Complete the online application form
Click on “Apply Now”
Attach scanned copies of your supporting documents
Make sure the documents are clear and legible.
Submit your application
Click on “Submit”
After submitting your application:
- You will receive an email confirmation.
- SASSA will process your application and may contact you if they require any further information.
- You will be notified of the outcome of your application within 30 days.
- If your application is approved,you will receive your first payment within 60 days.
